Its Alive!

Computer is built and everything is installed! Parts came about 10.30 this morning, I was rather shocked lol, had it built by about 12 and just finished getting everything back the way it should.

All is right with the world now hehe

p.s. There was a last minute change to the list - Had to get another PSU because the original one didnt have enough 6pin connectors for the graphics, but who cares, its a bloody good choice :P

Marathon = Bust - Computer = BOOM!

Yeah, So, 5 Hours into the Marathon.... My computer decided it wanted to die, a painful death. The motherboard has officially blown, It couldn't handle what I was throwing at it.

It is a good excuse for a new computer, but I wasn't planning on doing that until next year and its going to set me back around £500 for Motherboard, CPU, Graphics Card and Power Supply, £600 if you include a new HD Monitor.

Admittedly, I don't need a new Graphics Card or Monitor, but I may as well if I'm getting a new set up.

On the marathon side, we recorded a Video Diary of the day, I'll be recording some final thoughts and editing it today, including some parts from the 5 hours we where live. Its not as good as watching us live, but I hope its a good constellation (sp?).

Finally, I would like to thank Eddy for helping out at my end, Mr Wentworth for the support and ideas and everyone who joined us and was looking forward to watching the decent into madness through the 24 hours.

Oh Well.

Games I Need To Finish

I own way to many games for various systems, everything from NES to Wii, Master System to... Playstation 3 and even an Xbox 360, but I haven't finished as many as I would like.

So this is a list of games I need to finish from the current generation of consoles and handhelds. I'll warn you now, its a bit big...

Taken Serious?

I have a feeling, a bad feeling, a feeling that the closer we get to the City of Heroes Marathon, I'm not been taken as serious as a month ago when I was planning it all.

What could it be that's brought this? The 24 Hour thing? Sponsorship? Lack of Contest info? The Live Stream? The fact the time changed again? Could be any of them.

But I'm here to tell you - IT IS HAPPENING - I am doing this, and so is Eddy. Sure, we may not have tested the stream with people from Real World Hero about, but the test where successful, Video works, Sound works, Everything works.

Its Happening, and no one is stopping us!

An Open Letter to Job Centre Plus, DWP and Iain Duncan Smith

Dear Job Centre, Department for Work Pensions and Iain Duncan Smith,

Have you ever heard about something called a "Genuine Error"? I don't think you have, you see, on Friday 19th of November 2010, I forgot to pick my ES4 form up when I went to sign, once I noticed, it was a bit too late to run home and grab it. The desk monkey who saw me wasn't impressed, for she took me to see someone about it, now, the guy who saw me I have had dealings with before, and he is one of the most fair people I know who works for JSP, he went through the forms he had no choice but to fill in and send off. This is where it all started!

A suspension was placed on my claim, even though I said that I would take my job search evidence in, which I did the following Wednesday, to which the fair JSP person sent them off.

Now, jump forward to Monday, I had been assured that the suspension would be lifted because of the evidence I had taken in, and when I check my bank account, what's missing? That's right, no money. Looks like it hasn't been lifted.

I guess you all don't live in the real world, because at the time, the only 2 jobs that I could reasonably apply for, where 2 hours 32 minutes away on Public Transport, 1 Hour 2 Minutes longer than the 'travel to work area' and thats not all, they where also the only 2 results within 30 miles for Data Input (or data inputter on your website database, you should really fix that), oh and the list of results I gave you, the majority of them results needed something called Sage... I cant use Sage, I don't have the training in Sage, I can't afford the training in Sage

Long story short, there is no jobs for me in this area, and I'm limited until February until I can apply to places like Asda, Morrisons and Tesco because I applyed within 6 months.

As of typing this open letter, I haven't phoned to check if it a error on your part, although I have an idea of what is going to be said, I should phone now, I should check if its a Genuine Error on your part (see, you make them too, that's called life).

Its a shame this letter wont be seen by many, because there will be more than me in the same situation, and it might start to make you see sense, that's not asking for much, is it?

Yours Whateverly
Anthony "DancingBeaver" Jackson

I'll edit this with the results of the phone call
Update 1: Suspension still in place, can expect a phone call sometime after 3:30pm today [laughs]
Update 2: Just called me back, its 'with the decision makers now' should have results either tomorrow [Tuesday] or Wednesday

Update 3: Its Wednesday again, and still no money in the Bank, going to phone again shortly

CoH 24 Hour Charity Task Force Marathon: Update 3 - Plan B

Welcome to Plan B of the City of Heroes Charity Marathon for Real World Hero.

Plan B is as simple as it can get, its just me, attempting to get as high as I can in 24 hours with a brand new character started just for the event. Everything else will stay the same, like it being streamed live and it raising money for Real World Hero.

It is more than likely that Plan B will happen over the Task Force Marathon, but we hope to make it more entertaining on the live stream.

I should have another update on Wednesday when I decided what is happening. Info will be posted on Twitter first.

Friday 19 November 2010

Fuck You Job Centre - Fuck You!

Well, I was planning a nice blog post about getting my D&D Red Box, but iv had a bad day and what could be a bad month because of this.

Went to sign on today, they asked for my ES4 Form, basically a log of your job search activity, I forgot to pick it up, it was behind my book and I just plain forgot to pick it up. For 1 simple mistake, there deciding to pass it higher up... Of course there was people before me who also forgot theirs and they got away scott free, but me, oh no, because my memory is shit and I couldn't remember the names of the places I applied for and forgot the form its going higher. Best of all, there is actually 0 jobs within 30 miles of me that I'm trained for (Data Input), ok, there is 2, in a area that I cant get to without 4 or 5 bus changes.

There is also another factor stopping me from certain jobs, you can only apply once within 6 months, so that puts all the supermarkets out till at least February, not that they would employ me anyway, the amount of times I have tried them and all knock me back without reason, I don't even get a interview with them and agency's just suck, advertising jobs that done exist just to get you on their books.

Its like the Job Centre and Government don't understand real people, not everyone can remember things off the top of there head and that shit happens.

They can go fuck themselves, I'll take this all the way if I have to, but I'm not going down without a fight!

So Called Friends

I have a close circle of friends, 4 of us (6 if you include the brothers of 2), but recently, that circle has been drifting apart, and all because of 1 person.

That person has been an evil bastard and a perpetual liar, not only did he grass a friend up for having a part time job while still claiming JSA (which is all legal), he also told one of our weed dealers that I was a grass and not to serve me, and this person is not someone you want to get on the wrong side of! Luckily my cousin also knows this guy and straighten it all out, even though he didn't actually believe him in the first place - and that's just the first chapter!

Currys/PCWorld Tech Guys [Website]

I'm normally the first one to defend the internet when something bad happens, but I'm also the first to facepalm when something goes wrong, this... This I don't know what it is, a facepalm or dumb luck.

First, a tiny bit of background. Our washing machine basically blew up on Friday night, like, literately going to set on fire if I didn't pull it out and pull the plug - Fast! So my mum and aunt went and ordered a new one from Currys.

With the delivery, you can check online after 9pm the day before delivery, it was upto me to do this important thing, checked at 9.30pm and...... aspx runtime error, fun... checked at 10.30pm and... aspx runtime error, meh... okey, i'll wait till 12.30am ish... aspx runtime error, FFS! Right, one more go at 1.30am.. it works, yey! Your estimated delivery window is between 4.30pm and 8.30pm Sunday 14th November 2010.

Turn the page to 11am Sunday morning and guess what turns up, the new washing machine, my aunt said to the guy it was a pleasant surprise (it really was) and we weren't expecting them till after 4pm, the guy actually said to us that he didn't have that info and was doing our delivery because it was the closest, bonus!

So this begs the question, why show estimated delivery times on the website when the delivery team themselves don't actually get this info? I'm not complaining about the delivery itself, it was very efficient and the guys where friendly, I'm 'complaining' about the website and the back-end staff - Share info guys, your delivery team and customers will like you better for it.

I'll shut up now, gotta go plumb the thing in =P

Government Sanctioned Slavery

First off, if your not in the UK, you will have no idea what im on about, so here is a handy link for you to read :)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11706545

That's right lady's and gentleman, the British Government have decided that if your unemployed, you will have to do unpaid work for 4 weeks, just to get your Job Seekers Allowance (aka Dole), working 9am to 5pm, 5 days a week for about £2 a hour, litter picking, cleaning graffiti and gardening... THAT'S SOMETHING CRIMINALS SHOULD FUCKING DO!!!

CoH 24 Hour Charity Task Force Marathon: Update 2

Things are slightly up in the air with the Marathon right now, but for good reason. Everyone's schedule is different, Golden Girl can do Monday/Tuesday, Psygon and Gonk can do a Thursday/Friday before the 18th of December (there going on holiday I think they said) and Eddy [the NPC of the group] works dodgy shifts (even though its part time).

Without Psy, Gonk and GG, I really cant see this happening - I know for a fact they can stay the course, I know there play styles and... I know them, they are epicly good people! There are a couple of other people I know on CoH and who I have met in real life who I want to take part, but not seen them online when I manage to get online.

Now then, those who are good at picking things up will notice that is only 6 people, and your right, but its 7 if your include Phoenix, who has offered her services as a Reserve Member, so, in theory I only need to ask 1 more person and swap some TFs around to when Phoenix will be on - I have a idea who that could be, but I don't know them very well.

Well, to end on a light note - Real World Hero is interested, so will most likely be raising money for there chosen charity and teaming up with them (not in game, there on the US server, unfortunately).

Just need to find a date to accommodate everyone, cant be too hard? Can it?

CoH 24 Hour Charity Task Force Marathon: Update 1.5

Just a small update on the Charity Marathon
  • I'm dropping the 4 Shadow Shard Task Forces
    • It will take 5 Hours plus off of the total time
    • It will help gather 7 people to help (trust me)
    • Should be more interesting viewing on the stream
That's all for this update, said it was small =P

Friday 29 October 2010

CoH 24 Hour Charity Task Force Marathon: Update 1

Small Update for those who don't follow me on twitter (why don't you follow me on twitter?):
  • Eddy has agreed to help me run the stream throughout the 24 hours, he also has a laptop he got recently, will be using that
  • The date is the 18th of December to the 19th of December.
  • Start and [estimated] finish time is 12pm GMT (Estimated because it depends on how long each TF takes)
Time Conversions: 1pm Euro Time, 7am Eastern Time, 6am Central Time, 5am Pacific Time [I would double check them].
  • Live Stream will be shown on the Pure Boredom site, but I will be contacting people about advertising and showing the stream on there site (Want as much money as possible!).
  • The Live Stream will [hopefully] be showing both the in game footage, and footage of mine and eddy's downward spiral into madness throughout the night.
  • This is just a thought, but if some of the 7 team mates are staying throughout the 24 hours, they could interact through Skype/Teamspeek/Vent to the stream itself.
  • The marathon will take place on the Defiant Server (a Euro Server in case you don't know)
  • Its for Child's Play!!! (A Chip-In page will be set up, all money will go directly to the charity!)
The hard part of this whole thing is convincing 7 others to help, it was easy in 2006 for the Shadow Shard Marathon, but this time I want to do all 18 Hero Side Task Forces. 3 of 4 was hard in 2006, but 18 in 2010 with IOs and the Alpha Slot for the 4 top end ones (Issue 19, not out yet)....

...Its possible, nothing is impossible.

New Games (2.5)

Update: E.T for Atari 2600 is here, and the condition....

Excellent!!

Monday 25 October 2010

New Games (2)

Just got 3 games to add to the collection, well, its actually 4 because I won one on ebay last night

Games Got:
Sega Classics Arcade Collection on the Mega CD (£4)
Cool Spot on the Mega Drive (£4)
Comix Zone on the Mega Drive (£6)
and, the one I won on ebay - E.T on the Atari 2600 for the small sum of £2.41 including Postage. That makes it the cheapest game I have bought, ever

Condition for the 2 Mega Drive is Excellent, box and instructions, condition for the Mega CD game is good, no instructions unfortunately, will update with E.T condition when I receive it, it looked excellent in the picture though.

Formula 1, The BBC, Yahoo UK and The Internet

OH FOR FUCK SAKE - The first thing I said when I fired up Firefox today. Looking forward to watching the Formula 1 repeat at 2pm on the BBC (live race was 6am) and of course, right there, on the top of yahoo.co.uk (my home page) is the fucking result of the race!

I mean, come on, they must know that not everyone will be up at 6am to watch the race live, and the BBC are nice enough not to put it on there site, without navigating a few menus, because they know this (hence the repeat at 2pm), but really yahoo, you must have spoilt the result for thousands and thousands of people.

So this is a post for you Yahoo UK - Next race that is on early - WAIT TILL AFTER THE REPEAT TO POST THE RESULT SO PROMINENTLY ON YOUR HOME PAGE!!!! Because what you did, was a shitty thing and taken all the enjoyment out of winging that Alonso won and seeing the race itself.

BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Saturday 23 October 2010

A Load of Mega Drive Games *grins*

1 small thing to get out the way first: Mega Drive = Genesis, for some silly reason.

Oh Yeah! Saw a friend today, he is also a retro gamer, but not much of a collector, which is all the better for me, ya see, he has a load of games for the Mega Drive, and he is going to give me them, not sell, give. Not sure how many or which ones because he needs to get them out, but hopefully, next week, my collection will get a bit larger.

Yey!

Sunday 17 October 2010

Charity (or, One Stupid Idea)

Confession time, I've never really done anything for charity short of a couple of quid here and there, in fact most of the time I'm thinking "what's in it for me" - Not the best thing to think I know, but, its true.

But, after watching Pat the NES Punk doing a 24 hour marathon of NES games for Child's Play, it got me thinking. I could do that, I could play games for 24 hours and hell, I would do it for a good cause.

Then, after a sleep, I had a chance to think some more about it, and it hit me, like a ton of bricks - I could play City of Heroes for 24 hours, I have done it before back in 2006 on the very first Double XP weekend when I did the Shadow Shard Marathon with 6 other Crazy Heroes (and 1 or 2 others to make up the numbers). But the cogs didn't stop, I got thinking more, what about all the Task Forces in City of Heroes in 24 hours, its possible, ohh but that's not all, I got thinking even more - What if I did all the Task Forces and all the Strike Forces, and the co-op ones, in fact, what about every single Task Force and Strike Force that gives a badge - Thats 24 (25 if you include Old Positron) in total.

Now I know what your thinking, "But that's impossible! You couldn't do 24 Task Forces in 24 hours you crazy Beaver!" and you know what, you are so right, it is impossible, in 24 hours. But its not in 36 to 48 hours.

So this is my challenge, to run all 24(25) Task Forces/Strike Forces in City of Heroes and stream it live online for charity. Call it, making up for lost time and donations.

I must be crazy.

Wednesday 13 October 2010

Job? JOB!!

Oh wow! Never thought I would post something like this - I might have a job interview on Friday, Tech Support for either Rockstar Games or Ubisoft!!

It happend so quickly, sent my CV by email and within 10mins, they guy handling it all phoned me! 10 minutes! Had a short chat about me and the job and at the end, said he would put me forward for an interview, and will contact me with time and date soon, holy shit!

Best of all, its a job in gaming, outsourced but gaming none the less!!

YEY!!

Update: Nothing came of it, turns out there wasn't a job going there after all, was just a ruse to get my on there books - Fuckers!

Friday 8 October 2010

Shopping for Old Games

Holy fuck is it hard to get hold of Old Games in Hartlepool, there are 3 chain game shops in the town (one is a franchise) and only the franchise one sells old games, not even charity shops get ones older than Playstation or Playstation 2, unless of course they do get really old ones, they just don't put them out - I must pop in one day and ask about that.

The only place I can reliably get old games is ebay and that isn't a good thing, there a bit... overpriced.

Why is it easier in the US to get them, you see videos all the time of what people pick up randomly looking around "thrift stores" (that's right isn't it?), hell there is even a chain store dedicated to old junk called Bookman's (again, is that right?)- We need one of them here :(

If anyone from the UK is reading this, and has any old games for any console they wanna get rid of, give me a shout, I might take them off your hands :)

Arg, I wanna up my collection, but I cant *cries*

Tuesday 5 October 2010

New Games (1)

Randomly bought myself 2 new games - Bioshock 2 and Fable 2.

Why? Because I all ready have Bioshock and I fancied a RPG so got Fable 2. Well, time to play some Fable 2 hehe

Sunday 3 October 2010

Support: Or lack there of

I'm betting, that 99% of people who read this blog (all... 3 of you..?), gets support from there family and friends in just about whatever they do. Your the lucky ones.

Myself, I get nothing, sure, they might humour me when it comes to things, but in terms of support, I get nothing. Take for example my main project - Pure Boredom - Basically making films and reviewing TV shows, only problem is, at home, I cant record anything and I cant do the voice overs - Hell, I cant even talk on xbox live without being asked what I'm doing.

Back in June I did a Lets Play of the Doctor Who Adventure Games, I did the first chapter with the 2nd one being done the week after, I started, but after 5mins, I had my sister telling me to "stop talking to yourself" then calling me a freak for doing it - You know what - FUCK YOU! The lets play happened to be one of the most popular things i have done for You Tube, and because you wont shut the fuck up, I had to abandon it. People wanted to watch my lets play because of the commentary, the others had none, mine did, that's why people wanted to watch it aaaaarrrrgggggghhhhhh

Its not just family stopping me doing anything, my friends aren't very helpful either. 2 weeks ago, myself and eddy where meant to be doing prep work for Victorian Invasion, my first real short film, I tell him I'll be doing a schedule for it (or basically a To-Do list) and he likes the idea, make it as professional as possible - I give him a copy a week or so before we are due to start, both he and his girlfriend (she plays The Lady) are all for it, until the day we start, then he 'forgets' and keeps forgetting for the rest of the schedule. Only problem now is, the weather, I cant do any filming with the weather we are having now. I have a feeling that Victorian Invasion will not see the light of day any time this year, and that makes me a sad Beaver.

Sorry about the wall of text, but this is something that seriously pisses me off, I cant record anything at home because whoever is in at the time stops me and my friends forget or don't take direction (that could be another post all together). Whatever i want to do, is stopped because its not 'normal' and that's really pissing me off!

Bah!

Thursday 30 September 2010

Friends: To Those Loved and "Lost"

I have a close circle of friends, friends who would do just about anything for me and I would do just about anything for them, but there is a line, a line that was crossed.

One of my friends went to Thailand (yes, for what you think) and met a girl (yes, again its what you think) - basically, he has lost his marbles. He has asked both me and my other friend if he can use our bank accounts to send her money - Rightfully, we both flat out refused, and now he has threatened to wipe another friends facebook friends lists and told me never to ask him for anything again - all because we want to protect both ourselves and him.

He doesn't see it this way though, he sees it as us not doing what he wants and goes off on one because he always gets his way - he is just like that.

So this post is for him, to hopefully notice what he is doing, what is happening and why we said no - You are being taken for a ride mate, and we are trying to stop that - please listen to us when we tell you this - We love you dude and we don't want to see you hurt.

Sunday 26 September 2010

A Movie A Day?

Did you know, that I have a massive list of films to watch, and the chance of me actually getting through them is next to zero. The reason I very much doubt I would get through them, is because I never know what I want to watch - So, starting today, I'll be watching 1 film a day for 2 weeks, that's 14 films - But I want YOU to choose them for me!

For week 1, I want you to choose 6 of the best films ever made (not 7 because The Warriors is todays film)
For week 2, I want you to choose 6 of the worst films ever made (not 6 because on day 7, I'll be watching The Room, finally)

Now, there are a couple of things to take into account when choosing:
1) No Lord of the Rings, I hate these films and I hate the books, they bore me to death
2) No Star Wars, I have seen these a few times all ready (and I love the original unaltered trilogy)
3) Choose how ever many you want, 1, 3, 6 or all 12
4) The majority wins, if 2 people have picked the same film, I'll watch that without question
5) Tell me if its good or bad, goes without saying really hehe
6) There's no set time when I'm gonna watch them, but I'll post on Twitter when i do
7) They must be on dvd or blu-ray

Thats about it - You can choose films for me either by leaving a comment here, or on my Twitter @DancingBeaver

I look forward to watching em :D

Signing On

Once a fortnight, I have the 'ritual' of going to the Job Centre and Signing on, and I fucking hate it! Its not the walking there or the having to go, its the people, or some of them.

Lets start with the staff, one or two of them are canny good, but the rest look down on you like your the scum of the earth just because you don't have a job and they have all been in the same position as you... Bull Shit! Its bloody stupid, you just want to hit them sometimes.

Next, we have the 'customers', this is a hard one, because 90% of them are all right and are like me, but the other 10% are lazy smack heads who shouldn't get a penny, yet they waltz in there, sometimes kicking and screaming, demanding money - I have seen it, I have been there when the police have to be phoned, my god its horrible.

Last, we have the building, its hot, its stuffy and its just bloody horrible to wait in there, especially if your early for anything. Once I had to wait 10mins at the entrance and was then told to move away from the door because it kept opening... I would have gave them that IF the door actually worked when you where stood to one side but you have to be right under the sensor, but that's not the worst of it, that same day, I was 5mins late signing because the clock was 5mins slow! That's right, if it wasn't for the fact that I was seen by staff, I would have gotten the blame for being late and it would have fucked me right over.

I'm starting to ramble now, so I'll shut up with a final word - Get in, Get out and don't hang around - That's my tips for the Job Centre.

"Random" Night Out

Once a month, I head out to my local (cheep ass) pub (thats no where close to where the gps says it is) and have a few drinks with some friends from a certain website or 2. Not my main circle of friends, no, they have nothing to do with this (in fact, one has no idea what its all about, and I want to keep it that way - thank you very much).

Normally, there is just 3 of us, or 2, since for the last 3 or 4 months I haven't been able to get there due to lack of cash, but tonight, there was 9 people there! For what could be called random, it was a bloody good night and after meeting 6 new people, I'm a happy chappy.

Now if only I could get to the club on Saturday :)

No, I will not fix your computer

Or: Okey, I'll fix your computer

Whenever there is a computer related problem in my family or with my friends, I'm usually the first port of call, mainly because I can fix most problems they have, through braking my own computers over the years, and because I'm cheap (read: Free).

This in itself is not a problem, if I could fix them problems over the phone, but its hard to tell someone who hardly uses a computer to "Go to the Control Panel", "Start -> Control Panel", "Okey, now click <whatever needs fixing>", "What does it say?" and so on.

There are 2 nemesis when it comes to computing in my family, my Sister, who wont run Anti-Virus or Firewall and will download anything. And my cousin who's computer is the slowest pile of shit I have ever used. Its not the computers fault however, its the music he downloads, gigs and gigs of it for his work.

Its harder to rant about this then I though, I really love working with computers and being in tech support (internal, not customers) would be a very nice job.

Ah well :)
